Beastie Boys New Album….& Training

Nothing major here, just jammin to the new Beastie Boys album, waiting for some online training out of Australia. I am looking into a new accounting software for my clients called Xero. Check it out here.

It’s Winter Here….Stuck Dreaming of Fly Fishing

it is snowy, cold, cloudy…in other words not great out. My only connection to fishing has been reading the latest issues of The Fly Fish Journal or **Drake, or catching some nice fly fishing shows on the **WFN.

I am really getting interested in trying some salt water flat action. but for right now, some panfish action would be fine.

While I am busy being an advisor to my clients, I keep dreaming of stripping the line back with a huge fish on the end.

Soon enough I suppose.

Happy Superbowl Sunday all.

Go Steelers.

Whitefish Can't Jump: Protecting what we have

Great post by Whitefish Can’t Jump:

One of the first things I did after moving to Oregon last fall was to join the Native Fish Society and contact Russell Basset about how I could help further. I’d just spent four years in California and had a first-hand view of what happens to anadromous fish amidst runaway population growth and…

Horizons Are Expanding, Carp and Pike on the Fly

Been a hot, slow late July and August. Been too busy to fish which has been frustrating. We are expecting our child to be born any day now, or week. So I have been busy preparing for that.

On the bright side I grab a few minutes of down time and watched a couple videos on fly fishing that will help me enjoy my time on the water a little more.

Pike on the fly, The Flyrodder’s Guide to Carp, and Urban Warfare all videos by Barry Reynolds.

The Pike video has some amazing footage of Barry catching a 54” Pike. HUGE.

The carp videos are fun to watch as well. Nice 30+ lb fish being caught tailing in shallow water on a river within the city limits of Denver.

Both Pike on the fly and Flyrodder’s Guide to Carp have “how to” portions which help with fly selection, equipment requirements, and presentation etc.

Worth the price for a someone looking to gain useful information on fishing these two species. For folks like me here in central Minnesota, trout waters are available, but more of a destination fishing trip. I can cast for carp, pike or smallmouth all within 10 miles of my house. Prime fishing water all around me.

These video’s have turned me into a fish agnostic. I just enjoy casting and catching fish, and I am passing up a great opportunity if all I look for on a fly rod is trout.

Looking forward to putting some of the ideas in the videos to good use.

Check the vids out, expand your horizons, increase your overall fishing skills.

The Flyfish Journal | Tailgate | The Songless Night of the Trout

A nice poem about trout.

Anyone interested in the future of our outdoors and the hunting and fishing that goes with it, check out the School of Outdoor Sports at www.learnoutdoorsports.org
I will be helping them with their financial functions on a volunteer basis. Looking forward to it.

From a fellow blogger - More reasons to avoid bottled water

whitefishcantjump:

Not to mention, if bottled water consumption keeps growing, the bottled water companies will be after your favorite trout stream before you know it.

Well some very good news…my father is home tonight. He has been at the U of M getting treatment for AML (a form ok leukemia) for the last 6 weeks. He has made it through the first stage and is home to rest for a while until he has his marrow transplant.

It is a good day. Thank the Lord.

The haunting woods…

I have been in Denver all week at a clients. Haven’t been able to get outside since it has been raining every afternoon. But I did get one hike in. I was so nervous looking in the trees for mountain lions the whole time. Saw several doe and fawn mule deer pairs. Which was great, but I was thinking if they are here, hungry predators gotta be close too! The woods were haunting though. So quiet except for random noises from things I could not see. Creepy. Especially by myself.
